Course Introduction

All training paths lead to an internationally recognized professional Certificate IV in TESOL from the Australian College of Career Development.

  • MODULE 1 | Intro to Learning Languages

    This module consists of several chapters related to the topic of language learning. Key lessons include: Classroom Values, Icebreaker Activities, Student Needs, Learning Styles, Proficiency Levels, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), and the connections between Language and Culture.

  • MODULE 2 | Teaching and Lesson Planning

    This module features several lessons related to the topic of teaching. Key lessons include: Teaching Methods, Designing Quick-and-Easy Lesson Plans Using PPP, Using Lesson Plan Templates, and Creating Resources for your Lesson Plans.

  • MODULE 3 | Teaching the Macro Skills

    This is our most popular module, and it features 14 chapters and resources that focus on how to teach the four basic macro skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing. We will also look at how to teach a number of micro skills: Pronunciation, Poetry, Literacy, and Grammar.

  • MODULE 4 | Advanced Teaching Techniques

    Module 4 consists of 11 chapters that focus on more advanced teaching techniques. Key lessons include: Classroom Management, Error Correction, How to Design and Conduct your own Language Tests, and How to adapt Course Books using Authentic Materials.

  • MODULE 5 | Teaching English As Ministry

    This module gives you access to a library of resources that you can use to teach English as a ministry: including our “Fun Activities” booklet, lesson ideas for teaching children, Discovery Bible Study resources for church teams, and our C&C Magazine curricula.

  • MODULE 6 | Teaching Portfolio

    In this final module, you will create a portfolio with some of the lesson plans and resources you designed during the course. We will also guide you through the assessment process for receiving your Professional Certificate and finishing the course!

Stand with immigrants and refugees living in the USA.

YWAM Montana offers a full TESOL certificate course or short-term practicum experience. Our accompanying ESL program welcomes and serves over 100 language students living in the Flathead Valley, including many who have fled violence and insecurity in Ukraine, Syria, and Latin America. Volunteer in our Beginner and Advanced classes, Citizenship and Workplace, Family Literacy classes, movie nights, local hikes, and more.

YWAM Boston offers three semesters of in-person ESL classes starting in January, April, and September. Come to Boston to join a ‘hybrid’ TESOL experience while you complete the Citizens TESOL course. At the YDC, you will be impacting the lives of Khmer youth through English classes. You will have the opportunity to teach Beginner to Intermediate language learners with a team of other passionate instructors—giving you well-rounded skills for any classroom. Bring hope to refugees living in the Middle East.

Volunteer for one month—or up to a year or more—in some of the largest refugee camps in the Middle East. With over 2 million refugees in the area, the English classes offered by Middle East Refugee Relief can provide an open door for you to serve all ages. Opportunities include teaching young victims of war, pioneering new classes for adults, and most importantly, loving and serving displaced orphans and widows.

Spread Aloha from a classroom by the sea.

When you visit our partner location at YWAM Honolulu, you will join a small community in the Manoa Valley, a short bus ride from Waikiki and downtown. When you’re not soaking up the sun, you’ll be volunteering with YWAM’s English classes on the island including opportunities in Honolulu’s diverse Chinatown neighborhood, known for its Asian markets, restaurants and art galleries.

Provide online tutoring for refugees resettled in Europe and the USA.

We are setting up a few opportunities for anyone who would like to help refugee resettlement organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing online language tutoring while their classrooms are closed. Volunteer a few hours of your time each week for ESL programs at World Relief Western Washington, Every Nation Belfast in Northern Ireland, ACAA in London, or YWAM Boston in Massachusetts.
