One Nation in One Generation.

In September 2005 an outreach team came to the city of Battambang with a vision from God to pioneer a YWAM campus. God told them the first step in that vision was to start a Youth Development Center or “YDC” — a place that drew in the youth of Battambang. Years later, the YDC is teaching English and other life skills to over 350 students every day! The teachers on this campus believe they can impact this entire nation in just one generation.

The YDC’s mission: To combat the cycle of poverty through education and provide tools for our students to create brighter futures for themselves.

While this school is centered around a 12-level English curriculum which is accredited by the Cambodian Ministry of Education, students also have the opportunity to study other subjects such as Bible, art, music, and other foreign languages. English students receive certificates upon the completion of their classes, which students use to find employment and create a brighter future. Many graduates from the YDC have gone on to open their own cafes, become flight attendants, study abroad, work in government, join international organizations and more! It may sound cliché, but the students in these classes really are the future of Cambodia.

Angkor Wat is the world’s largest religious building

The name actually translates to “City of Temples,” and you can see this and many other ancient sites in the nearby town of Siem Reap.

“I’ve used these practical skills teaching in a traditional classroom, in a village, and online .”

A TEACHER’S STORY

One of my biggest takeaways from taking TESOL was learning how to lesson plan better, how to be more flexible in teaching, thinking of and using teaching resources, and managing a classroom well. Since my TESOL course, I continue to see the practical usefulness of these skills in all the teaching environments that I have been in—from the traditional-type classroom with a whiteboard, to teaching under a tree or a house in the village, or having to teach lessons online. It is this very practical nature of TESOL that I love so much and one of the big reasons why I would definitely recommend it to others! Also, I had awesome TESOL facilitators!
